Happy National Lighthouse Day! It was on this day in 1789, that Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys and public piers. Here is the Montauk Point Lighthouse, a National Historic Landmark and the oldest lighthouse in New York State (completed in 1796), depicted in James Gulliver Hancock’s “Connection Cultivating Communities” (2018) at The LIRR Merrick station.
